Chandu Champion Box Office Collection Day 1

Chandu Champion, starring Kartik Aaryan, becomes the lowest opener in nearly a decade, minting Rs 4.75 crore. The movie continues Kabir Khan’s disappointing run.

A Disappointing Opening

Kartik Aaryan’s Chandu Champion, a sports biopic directed by Kabir Khan, had a slow start in cinemas despite receiving mixed reviews. Known for directing blockbusters like Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Ek Tha Tiger, Kabir Khan’s latest film has unexpectedly become Aaryan’s lowest opening film in nearly a decade.

Opening Day Collection

According to early estimates, Chandu Champion raked in around ₹4.75 crore on its opening day. This marks the lowest opening for a Kartik Aaryan film since his 2015’s Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, his breakout hit. It’s also approximately half of what his last theatrical release, Satyaprem Ki Katha, earned on its opening day last year, which was ₹8.02 crore. In contrast, Aaryan’s first film post-pandemic, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, garnered ₹13.41 crore on its opening day. Watch Chandu Champion Trailer.

Ticket Pricing Strategy

Despite the film’s underwhelming performance, it’s noteworthy that tickets on the first day were priced at ₹150 in major multiplexes. This strategy, intended to draw larger crowds, failed to significantly boost the film’s opening day numbers.

Kabir Khan’s Ongoing Challenge

The poor opening of Chandu Champion also continues Kabir Khan’s disappointing run. His last directorial, 83 starring Ranveer Singh, opened with ₹12.64 crore but had its run cut short by a new wave of the pandemic, eventually making ₹193 crore globally in its lifetime run.

Competition from Munjya

Chandu Champion is expected to face stiff competition from the sleeper hit supernatural thriller Munjya, which continues to attract audiences. On its eighth day of release, Munjya earned around ₹3.35 crore, just a crore less than Kartik’s film. Despite limited promotions and no major stars, Munjya had made ₹4 crore on its opening day.

Conclusion

The slow start of Chandu Champion at the box office is a surprising turn of events, considering the strong backing of both Kartik Aaryan and director Kabir Khan. As the film continues its run, it will be interesting to see if it can gain momentum and overcome the initial setbacks.
