Dus June Kii Raat Web Series Review: More Drama Than Thriller, Feels Like a TV Serial

Dus June Kii Raat, starring Tusshar Kapoor and Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, is a crime thriller based on Santosh Pathak’s novel. The series, streaming on Jio Cinema, aims to blend humour and suspense but ends up feeling more like a lacklustre TV drama.

Rating: 1.5 Stars
Language: Hindi
Genre: Drama
Director: Tabrez Khan
Starring: Tusshar Kapoor, Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, Tushar Acharya
Available on: JioCinema

Plot Summary
The story revolves around Bhagyesh, also known as Panouti (bad luck), who is infamous for his bad luck in Raniganj. Born on the day his father died and his family’s iconic theatre closed, he believes reviving the theatre will change his luck. With his cousin Battu’s help, Panouti embarks on this mission. Things take a turn when Panouti meets Puppy through an online marriage platform, bringing what seems like a good fortune until a dead body is found in the theatre, leading to a murder investigation.

Performance
Tusshar Kapoor struggles as the misfortune-prone protagonist. His attempts at comedy and romance fall flat due to poor dialogue and weak execution. Priyanka Chahar Choudhary, in her OTT debut, does a decent job but is let down by a poorly developed character. Shaan Groverr as Battu, Panouti’s supportive cousin, delivers some of the show’s few entertaining moments.

Direction
Directed by Tabrez Khan, the series has a fast pace but is often confusing with unnecessary twists and underdeveloped characters. The 12-episode season ends on a cliffhanger, leaving many questions unanswered. The direction feels outdated, relying heavily on voiceovers to connect the plot, which doesn’t work well.

Writing
The series tries to juggle multiple elements—treasure hunts, murder investigations, love stories, and jail clashes—but fails to execute them effectively. The performances are mediocre, largely due to weak writing. There’s a lack of character development, and the jokes often fall flat.

Verdict
Dus June Kii Raat is a dull ride, lacking the excitement and engagement to keep viewers interested. Even with episodes lasting only 25-30 minutes, it feels like a never-ending bore. Despite the potential of its premise, the series fails to deliver a compelling crime thriller.

Conclusion
While the show had the ingredients for a great mystery, it missed the mark. The plot, acting, and direction do not create an engaging series. This might not be for you if you’re looking for a captivating crime thriller.
