Ghudchadi Movie Review: Promising Cast, Let Down by Predictable and Weak Execution

Ghudchadi, featuring Sanjay Dutt, Raveena Tandon, Khushalii Kumar, and Parth Samthaan, promised an engaging family drama but ultimately fell short of expectations. Directed by Binnoy K. Gandhi, the film attempts to blend romance, comedy, and drama but struggles to deliver a cohesive and satisfying experience.

Genre: Romance, Family

Runtime: 119 Minutes

A Familiar Storyline with Missed Potential
The movie revolves around two love stories: one between the younger couple, Chirag (Parth Samthaan) and Devika (Khushalii Kumar), and the other between their parents, Colonel Veer Sharma (Sanjay Dutt) and Menaka (Raveena Tandon), who were former lovers. The plot thickens when the family’s matriarch, Kalyani Devi (Aruna Irani), disapproves of both relationships due to their inter-community nature. This sets the stage for a predictable conflict, with the narrative following a familiar path seen in many Bollywood films.

Despite an interesting premise, the execution leaves much to be desired. The film’s core conflicts, such as inter-caste romance and the dynamics of a blended family, are handled in a clichéd and sometimes exaggerated manner. The storyline lacks depth, and resolving these conflicts feels rushed and unconvincing.

Performances
The performances in Ghudchadi are a saving grace, though they cannot completely salvage the film. Both seasoned actors, Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon, deliver solid performances, particularly in emotional scenes. However, their characters are underwritten, and the chemistry that once made them a beloved on-screen pair fails to shine through in this film.

The younger leads, Parth Samthaan and Khushalii Kumar share decent chemistry, but their characters lack the depth needed to make their love story compelling. Khushalii Kumar does well in some emotional moments, but her character’s arc feels incomplete. Parth Samthaan shows promise but occasionally overacts in scenes meant to be humorous.

Aruna Irani’s portrayal of the strict matriarch evokes negative roles from classic Bollywood films, but it feels outdated and one-dimensional in the context of this story.

Visuals and Music
One of the film’s highlights is its visual appeal. The lush locations, including beautiful gardens, golf courses, and traditional homes, add a pleasant aesthetic to the movie. The film also captures the vibe of Delhi well, offering a visual treat for audiences.

The music of Ghudchadi is a mixed bag. While some songs, like Punjabi Munde, have become popular, they don’t add much to the film’s narrative. Including several songs feels unnecessary and disrupts the flow of the story.

Writing and Direction
The biggest drawback of Ghudchadi is its weak writing and direction. The screenplay is uninspiring, with dialogues that often miss the mark. The film attempts to blend elements of old-school family dramas with modern themes but fails to strike the right balance. As a result, the movie feels outdated and fails to resonate with today’s audience, especially those accustomed to more nuanced storytelling on OTT platforms.

Director Binnoy K. Gandhi shows potential in some scenes, but overall, the direction lacks the sharpness needed to elevate the film. The pacing is uneven, and the narrative feels disjointed, making it hard for viewers to stay engaged.

Final Verdict
Ghudchadi, with its ensemble cast and interesting premise, had the potential to be an entertaining family drama. However, weak writing, outdated storytelling, and lacklustre direction make it a disappointing watch.
