Esha Gupta On Her Sexy Image: “It Is Difficult To Shed The Image Of A Sex Symbol”

Esha Gupta opens up about the challenges of shaking off her image as a “sexy actress” in the industry. Known for her bold roles and stunning looks.

Esha Gupta reveals how being labelled a “sex symbol” has impacted her career and personal life. From battling industry perceptions to insecurities instilled by an ex-boyfriend, Esha shares her journey of self-acceptance and reclaiming her self-worth.

The Struggle to Shed the “Sex Symbol” Tag

Esha, who made her Bollywood debut in 2012 with Jannat, became known for her glamorous roles. Over time, she found it difficult to shed the “sexy actress” label. “It’s tough to break that image,” she admits.

Esha explains, “The problem is the perception people have. What is a sexy girl? A sexy girl can still go home, have a family, watch movies, cook, and clean. But in this industry, the perception is that she cannot be someone’s girlfriend or daughter. It took me a while to accept that image. I had people in my life telling me that instead of trying to shake it off, I should embrace it because there are so many who try to be sexy but can’t pull it off.”

“My Ex Made Me So Insecure”

Esha further recalls how an ex-boyfriend, “the only guy from the industry” she ever dated, added to her insecurities. “He made me so insecure. He would tell me, ‘Oh, you want to be like this actress? Then don’t wear such clothes.’ And those clothes were a spaghetti top and jeans. He had issues with me wearing a bikini, doing certain songs, or taking on certain roles.”

She explains how this constant pressure led her to say no to several projects. “I thought, if I want to get those girl-next-door roles, I need to shed this sexy image. But then I realized I’m too bold for that. Boldness is a mindset, and now I’m sure of myself.”

Feeling Excluded by the Industry

Esha’s insecurities weren’t only influenced by her ex. She also felt excluded by the Bollywood industry itself. “You’re made to feel like you need to enter a particular clan to succeed. It took me years to realize my life has value. I used to think, ‘Why am I not invited to this party? Why didn’t I get that call?’ Initially, I even had PRs telling me I had to go to certain parties to fit in.”

She adds, “I eventually realized those people aren’t invited into my life, not because I dislike them, but because I don’t think they’re important in my life.”

Conclusion: Esha Gupta’s Journey to Self-Acceptance

Despite facing challenges from both her personal and professional life, Esha Gupta has come a long way in embracing her boldness and owning her identity in Bollywood. Today, she is confident and has moved past the insecurities that once held her back.

Esha’s journey is a testament to the importance of self-worth and breaking free from limiting perceptions in a world that often tries to box actresses into labels.
