On World Mental Health Day, actor Imran Khan candidly shares his eight-year journey with depression and the transformative power of therapy. The 41-year-old star, known for his roles in films like Katti Batti, reflects on his challenges despite having fame, family, and fortune.
Imran Khan shared his struggles with anxiety began unexpectedly, manifesting in sleepless nights and unexplained restlessness. “I didn’t consider seeking help then,” he admits. However, by 2016, the anxiety became overwhelming, prompting him to seek professional guidance.
“I started going for analysis sessions, and it has been eight years since then,” Khan reveals. He emphasizes the significant shift in societal attitudes toward mental health over the past decade. “Ten years ago, conversations about mental health were taboo. Today’s generation embraces mental health care, encouraging open discussions instead of judgment,” he explains.
Khan credits his understanding of mental health to his mother, a practicing psychoanalyst. “I was fortunate that the people around me didn’t attach any stigma to mental health issues. More than being diagnosed with depression, I voluntarily sought analysis,” he shares.
When asked if he feels happier now, Khan thoughtfully replies, “Happiness is a strange word because you cannot always be happy. The real question is, do you feel like getting out of bed in the morning? If not, you are in a state of actual collapse. In that way, I am in a healthier place now.” He acknowledges that since his early 20s, he has struggled emotionally and psychologically but feels more grounded today.
