Nagarjuna Akkineni’s Hyderabad Convention Centre Demolished Over Lake Encroachment Allegations

In a significant turn of events, actor Nagarjuna Akkineni’s state-of-the-art N-Convention Centre in Hyderabad was demolished by the newly established Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA) on August 23, 2024. The action was taken due to allegations that the convention centre encroached upon the whole tank level (FTL) area of Tummidikunta Lake.

High Court Intervenes After Demolition Begins

The demolition of the N-Convention Centre, jointly owned by Nagarjuna and his associate N. Prretham and managed by N3 Enterprises, sparked immediate legal action. Nagarjuna took to social media platform X to label the demolition “unlawful” and approached the Telangana High Court. The court responded by issuing a stay on the demolition drive and served notices to HYDRA and the Telangana state government. Despite this, HYDRA had already dismantled a significant portion of the structure by 11 a.m., with the stay order only being passed around 1:40 p.m.

Reasons Behind the Demolition

HYDRA initiated the demolition following a complaint by Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, the Minister of Roads and Buildings, who accused Nagarjuna of encroaching on approximately three-and-a-half acres of land that originally belonged to Tummidikunta Lake. Defending the agency’s actions, HYDRA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath stated, “The demolition comes after years of allegations that N-Convention Centre has been manipulating the legal system and processes to continue its commercial activities on unauthorized structures within the FTL and buffer zones.”

Nagarjuna’s Stand on the Controversy

Nagarjuna has strongly denied the allegations, maintaining that the demolition was conducted unlawfully. His legal team is actively challenging HYDRA’s actions, and the actor has called for a thorough investigation. The case has raised significant concerns about property rights and environmental regulations in Hyderabad, drawing public attention to the ongoing struggle between development and ecological preservation.

What’s Next?

With the Telangana High Court now involved, the fate of N-Convention Centre hangs in the balance. This incident has triggered a broader discussion on encroachments and the legal mechanisms governing land use in urban India. The court’s decision could set a precedent for future cases involving alleged encroachments and the powers of newly formed agencies like HYDRA.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as Nagarjuna continues his fight to reclaim the demolished property and clear his name from the encroachment allegations.
