Box Office Performance and Competition

Although the dip in collections was anticipated, the upcoming weekend is expected to bring a surge in footfalls, which could help bounce back. The film has already amassed a whopping Rs 520 crore nett domestically and has crossed the Rs 750 crore mark globally. With these figures, Stree 2 is closing in on Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan (Rs 524.53 crore in Hindi) and may soon surpass the lifetime earnings of Gadar 2, which concluded its run with Rs 525.70 crore. Another Rs 5 crore day could break Gadar 2’s record within just 21 days.

Clear Run at the Box Office

With Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency postponed, The movie enjoys a clear run for another week. The film remains unaffected even by the release of Tamil star Thalapathy Vijay’s GOAT, which won’t have a wide Hindi release. The movie’s strong third-week performance is buoyed by double-digit occupancy, particularly during night shows, which have exceeded 18% occupancy rates. As the movie inches closer to Jawan’s lifetime Hindi box office record of Rs 584 crore, there is speculation that it could surpass this milestone before the end of the month, ahead of the release of Jr NTR and Janhvi Kapoor’s Devara: Part One.

Behind-the-Scenes Drama and Future of Maddock Supernatural Universe

While this horror-comedy recently became the biggest Bollywood hit of the year, it hasn’t been without its share of behind-the-scenes drama. A curious PR battle for credit among the movie’s lead actors erupted on social media. Addressing the situation, director Amar Kaushik has clarified that the dispute has not affected the camaraderie among the team. Kaushik explained that such situations often arise from external influences, especially when a film achieves significant success.

“Fans of stars usually have this fight on social media where they claim their favourite actor should get all the credit for the movie. It is okay. To each their own. Fans getting into a social media war over credits is common,” Amar Kaushik told India Today.

Stree 2 is part of the Maddock supernatural universe, including hits like Bhediya and Munjya. Varun Dhawan’s character from Bhediya made a cameo in Stree 2, sparking curiosity among fans about whether the makers will release Stree 3 or Bhediya 2 next. Amar Kaushik directed both films and have been successful at the box office.

What’s Next?

During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Rajkummar Rao was asked about the next release under this genre. While he was initially unsure about the makers’ plans, he hinted that Bhediya 2 might be released before Stree 3. “A sequel to Bhediya is yet to be released, while Stree 2 is already in theatres. So, it’s possible the audience may see Varun Dhawan’s horror-comedy sequel before the third instalment of Stree,” Rao said. Bhediya, released in 2022, starred Kriti Sanon and Abhishek Banerjee alongside Varun Dhawan.
