‘A Fly On The Wall’ Premieres at MAMI After Busan Success

Following its world premiere at the prestigious 29th Busan International Film Festival, the poignant documentary A Fly On The Wall, directed by Nilesh Maniyar and Shonali Bose, has been officially selected to screen at the upcoming 2024 Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) in the Focus South Asia section. This year’s festival will take place from October 19 to 24, showcasing the best of South Asian cinema and offering a platform for impactful storytelling.

A Fly On The Wall intricately captures the final week before the physician-assisted suicide of the filmmakers’ close friend, Chika Kapadia. The documentary weaves a heartfelt narrative that explores themes of love, loss, dignity, and the strength of human connection. Through this personal journey, Maniyar and Bose aim to spark essential conversations around the complex subject of physician-assisted suicide and the choices surrounding life’s final moments.

Director Nilesh Maniyar shared his thoughts on the film’s selection, stating, “This film was born out of love for Chika, and we wanted to give people a story that is both deeply personal and universally relevant. Our hope is that A Fly On The Wall will open up necessary discussions around dignity and choice in the final moments of life. We are honored to be part of the Focus South Asia section at MAMI, especially since it is our home city.”

Co-director Shonali Bose also expressed her excitement, saying, “I am thrilled to have the Indian premiere of this deeply personal film at MAMI. The festival is special to me as it showcased my very first film, Amu, in 2005. Chika was born and brought up in Mumbai, making it even more meaningful for us to screen this film in our home city.”

A Fly On The Wall marks the third feature-length collaboration between Maniyar and Bose, following their successful films The Sky Is Pink and Margarita with a Straw, both presented at the Busan Film Festival. Their storytelling continues to evoke empathy and introspection, tackling difficult yet essential themes that resonate deeply with audiences.

The 2024 Mumbai Film Festival is set to be a grand celebration of South Asian filmmaking. With its rich narrative, A Fly On The Wall stands out as a powerful exploration of the beauty and complexities of life and death, promising to leave a lasting impact on viewers.
